Im Keller
war die Luft alles, was ich sah
Wände, Boden, Decke
konnte ich alle gleichzeitig berühren
Im Keller
schlug ich mir die Knöchel
an den Wänden auf und ab
um mich zu versichern
die Wände sind noch da
Im Keller
fühlte ich eine Erhebung
in meiner Wand (in meiner Hand)
und ich kratzte bis der Sand
rieselte nach innen
und ich rieselte nach außen
Mit einem leichten Knistern
schafft sich die heiße Essigluft Bahn
durch die Doppelfenster
unter Haut, unter Haar
unter Knochen und mehr
und ich blicke in den Himmel der
so nackt und fahl
und ungeheuer wundersam
wie ein großes, krankes Tier
sich zu Boden senkt
Und durch den Rauch
dringt ein diffuses Licht
durch die Nebel
im Betonwald bricht
heiße Essigluft
verdichtet
und mit Öl versetzt
hörst du den Puls
hörst du wie die Leitungen explodieren
fühlst du den Sog der Maschinerie
das einzige, was hier noch lebt
Am rauschenden Staubfluss
siebt sich die Luft durch Stanniolpapierlaub
und ein giftiger Regenbogen
fällt vom Himmel
die Strahlen der Sonne
lassen die Schutthaufen bersten
im Glühen verdampfen die Wände
Unterm Teppich
hat sich ein letztes Getier verirrt
dehnt die Flügel
schwebt durch das Fenster
und fort von hier
in die Stratosphäre
und bahnt sich seinen Weg
bis es im Vakuum gefriert
hörst du den Puls
hörst du wie die Leitungen explodieren
fühlst du den Sog der Maschinerie
das einzige, was hier noch lebt
Ich setze Stein auf Stein:
Richte meinen Keller ein

Cellar
(translation by Magnus Rook)
In the cellar
air was everything I saw
Walls, floor, ceiling.
I could touch all of them at once.
I scraped my knuckles up and down the walls
to reassure myself of their mere existence
I felt an elevation in the wall
in my hand
and I scraped until the sand
started to leak inside
and I started leaking to the outside
~
with a light hiss
the torrid air is breaking ground
through the double glazing
under skin, under hair, under bones and more
and I am gazing in the skies
which, so bare and bleak, so uncanny
sink onto the ground like a huge sick animal
a scattered glow is gleaming through the smoke
and the torrid air breaks through the concrete forest
- condensed
and blended with oil sludge
can you hear the pulse
can you hear the pipes explode
do you feel the undertow of the machinery
the only thing surviving
by the hissing dust river
the air is sifted by cellophane leaves
and a toxic rainbow falls from the sky
the sunrays let the rubble piles burst
heat evaporates the walls
under the carpet one last creature kept hidden
now flexing its wings and flying out the window
into the stratosphere
it is making its way
until freezing in a vacuum
can you hear the pulse
can you hear the pipes explode
do you feel the undertow of the machinery
the only thing surviving
